January 2023 - 3D Designer of the Month

Jacob, the owner and 3D printing designer behind Thin-Air-3D, is 3D Printer Academy's designer of the month! This is a testament to his hard work, creativity, and expertise in the field of 3D modeling and printing.

As a veteran and a mechanical engineer, Jacob has always had a passion for technology and its potential to improve lives. He began exploring the world of 3D printing in mid-2020 and has been honing his skills in CAD modeling and 3D printing ever since.

Jacob's design work is varied, encompassing both sculpting and organic modeling, which allows him to create a wide range of designs that are visually stunning and functional. His creations are not only beautiful, but they are also carefully thought out and considerate to the user experience.

He is the founder of Thin-Air-3D where he sells 3D prints of his designs, as well as the 3D files for many of his designs so that customers can print them themselves. He also offers exclusive access to all of his models to those who subscribe to his Patreon.

One of his latest designs, and a fan favorite, is what he calls "The Really Annoying Card Container," is in intricate card box that requires unscrewing more than 120 screws just to open it!

Being named the "Designer of the Month" by the 3D Printer Academy is a huge accomplishment, and it speaks to Jacob's skill and dedication as a 3D designer. With his background in mechanical engineering and passion for 3D printing, he is always pushing the boundaries of what is possible with this technology, and we are sure he will continue to do so in the future.

Jacob's most recent designs is an impressive articulated owl named Owlbert. It is an adorable fidget owl that has many articulation points and can be posed standing up or sitting. Owlbert is the result of two weeks of 3D design work in Blender.
