Summary

Here we have some fully customizable general purpose handles. There are two variants: one with a single screw fixing point and one with dual screw fixing points.

We really like guppyk's Handle - All Purpose, Four Sizes, but we needed something slightly different. Rather than modify guppyk's model, we chose to create a similar design in OpenSCAD that is fully customizable.

You can customize everything from the size and position of the screw holes to the overall dimensions of the handle and the style of the bevel.

Screws

  • Screw_Hole_Diameter - Screw hole diameter
  • Screw_Head_Hole_Diameter - Screw head hole diameter
  • Screw_Material_Thickness - Material thickness (between screw head and base)
  • Screw_Countersink_Angle - Screw countersink angle (82 and 90 are common)

Stem

  • Stem_Material_Thickness - Thickness of stem (X and Y axis)
  • Stem_Height - Height of stem (Z axis)

Handle

  • Handle_Grip_Width - Width of grip (X and Y axis)
  • Handle_Height - Height of handle (Z axis)
  • Square_Handle - Should the handle be square?

Base

  • Base_Enabled - Should a base be added?
  • Base_Lip_Width - Width of base lip (X and Y axis)
  • Base_Lip_Height - Height of base lip (Z axis)

Bevel

  • Bevel_Radius - Radius of bevel
  • Bevel_Rounded - Should bevel be rounded?

Printing

Recommended slicer settings:

  • Resolution: 0.1mm - 0.2mm
  • Infill: ~50% for soft filaments, such as PLA (could probably be lower for tougher filaments, such as ABS)
  • Supports: Doesn't Matter
  • Rafts: Doesn't Matter

For round single point handles, you may wish to consider randomising the start position of each layer to avoid a Z seam. In Cura this option is called Z Seam Alignment.

For small single point handles, you may need a print with a brim.

Attribution

This work, Fully Customizable General Purpose Handles was inspired by guppyk's Handle - All Purpose, Four Sizes.

Whilst some of the models included in the project may appear similar to the models from guppyk's project, the code and files in this project do not include any of the code or files from guppyk's project. All of the STLs in this project are original and were generated using code that was developed, in full, by Code and Make (i.e. from the .scad file included in this project).

Although we do not believe this project can strictly be considered a derivative (or 'remix' in Thingiverse parlance) of guppyk's project, we believe it is fair and proper to give credit to guppyk for the original design concept. For this reason, we have marked this project as a 'remix' of guppyk's project on Thingiverse to show our appreciation.
